Special Instruction Services

EICB provides Special Instruction services to eligible children from birth to age three who are developmentally delayed or have a diagnosed condition that affects their health and development.

Our goal is to enhance the child's development, to provide support and assistance to the family, and to maximize the child and family's benefit to society

We offer a twelve-month program. In order to maximize learning opportunities and considering that the rate of human learning and development is most rapid in the preschool years. Timing of intervention becomes particularly important when a child runs the risk of missing an opportunity to learn during a state of maximum readiness.

Services are determined according to individual needs and we offer center-based and home-based services.

Center-based services are available from Monday through Friday. (Session hours 8:00 to 10:00 am, 11:00 to 1:00 pm, or 1:30 to 3:30 pm.)

We offer stimulating, developmental classrooms in English and Spanish with age-appropriate curriculum from birth to age three years.

We have English classrooms and Spanish classrooms where children are instructed in their native language. When a child from a monolingual Spanish classroom has a foundation on his/her native language she/he can go to a bilingual classroom. This class serves as a liaison to transition to the CPSE program.

Special education teachers plan curriculum activities based on each child's IFSP. The IFSP sets personalized goals for each student and are tailored to the child's individual learning style and ability.

Each day, we offer a consistent and structured setting where a child is exposed to a variety of stimulating activities that will foster his/her maximum potential. These activities include:

  • Free play: Classrooms are organized with different age-appropriate centers that will let children explore their environment. Examples of these centers are: manipulative area, dramatic area, block area, art area, sensory area, and quiet area. Each centers are structured daily to target goals outlined on each child's IFSP.
  • Circle time: This is a safe place to share and feel trusted. Teachers plan meaningful activities that encourage group process and peer interactions and have a strong emphasis on cognitive development and language goals.
  • Movement: Movement is a child's natural activity and we encourage this by providing different situations where the child can be active and develop gross motor skills, balance, and coordination.  We have an indoor and outdoor playground available throughout the entire year.
  • Art Time: Toddlers are more interested in the art process rather than making a finished product.  We provide a variety of materials so children can explore and discover different textures, combinations and have fun.
  • Snack/Toileting: We consider that each part of a child's day a teachable moment. A light snack is provided daily and this time is used to facilitated group process, language development, problem solving and daily living skills. and take advantage of any situations such as snack or toileting to engage a child in meaningful interactions and expand is receptive and expressive vocabulary.  We provide a light snack everyday. Toileting time is used to promote independently problem solving and daily living skills. Children do not have to be toilet trained to attended.
  • Story Time: We support early literacy through reading books with individual children and in small groups.

Communication is the Key to Success

Communication with families is a major priority an invaluable part of each child’s development. Communication between parents and teachers can occur in many ways, such as telephone calls, communication notebooks and/or meetings.

Parents’ participation is always encouraged.  We offer two Parent/Teacher Conferences a year and regular workshops with interesting themes for parents.  In addition, we have an open door policy and parents are welcome to come to school throughout the entire year.

Regular team meetings are held in every classroom to discuss a child’s progress and set up strategies in order to help the child achieve his/her IFSP goals using a multidisciplinary approach.
